the struggle

importance and significance

The importance of title, “the miseducation of the negro” has a humongous role in the whole book. The title is a literate foreshadowing of the book. At first, it may sound basic but through the book, Woodson studied how the education that is being adopted is education that will not help in becoming an educated student. Woodson states how in the black school they will learn about subjects such as English and greek which was great but how come they were being taught math, history or sciences? Woodson found out they don’t teach those other subjects because these subjects can teach African americans on  how to run a business, how to invest, and how to create experiments and in general so that African Americans couldn’t be as smart as a white man, the black race was supposed to be dumb if proven wrong then all this discrimination would be false making blacks equally which wasn’t supposed to be correct from all the brainwashing that has been passed through generations. The white race is supposed to be superior but if given the chance it could be proven that blacks can be superior, the white race was petrified of being equal “If  a white couldn’t do it they thought that it couldn’t be done”(Woodson .pg. 40) These lead many black people to feel discouraged which was exactly what white people wanted to do, making them believe they could never be equal enough to beat and prove the white race. This was solely just done because learning these subjects will make them more intelligent, the white people did this just so they couldn’t become educated enough to gain status, make money off the knowledge they know, making discoveries that would change the world. Even when there were times when they’ve become educated enough to make discoveries or technology never seen before, whites tended to discourage their findings but not because it wasn’t false findings but so they can take that credit bringing them more fame and money. “Getting the most they can out of the race without putting no effort but a gain for themselves .” (Woodson.pg62)  “Whites make money by exploiting blacks”(Woodson.pg62), Especially history, it wasn’t taught so African Americans didn’t know about their history, they weren’t supposed to know about how they were forced into slavery, most African Americans thought that slavery was just how life goes, they had no clue how much abuse their race has been through. “This way they didn’t start to teach George Jordan instead of Christopher Columbus because then the truth was clear”(Woodson pg118)

while making the curriculum one day they were going to put the constitution of the united states into history class but was later removed by law so that African Americans wouldn’t find out how many rights they had, and how much liberty they were supposed to have. “ Makes it impossible for negro to see the published constitution of the united states because it risked negros finding their rights.”(Woodson.pg69)
