who was Carter G Woodson?
Carter g Woodson. Woodson was an American historian, born on December 19, 1875, in New Canton, VA . Born to former slaves. Even though trouble he started high school at 20 and ended up being the second African American to get his doctorate at Harvard. This later caused Woodson to write more than 8 books on black history, he also started what we now know as black history month, while also creating the NAACP. Throughout his life, many people told him that he would never be competent or have a hierarchy because of his race, but he later proved everyone wrong. While studying he noticed how underdeveloped the curriculum was for African can Americans. This gave him the intent to find out if all African Americans were actually being taught to the full extent or was a barrier put by the white mean or even by the black community, opposing the education. On his mission to evaluate how African Americans were being taught he noticed that it wasn’t education, it was the miseducation of a negro. Woodson’s main purpose in writing this novel was to expose that they were still being restricted from their rights, even though segregation in schools was abolished by the brown vs. board in the 1954 case and later the civil rights act of 1964, banding segregation, there was still segregation, especially in learning which was extremely important because knowledge and education are what mainly helped African Americans to be heard, to get a status in the hierarchy, and to gain equality!
